Things to do with Mason/Ball/Kerr Jars

One definition you'll find of  a Southern woman is :she decorates with Mason and/or Ball Jars.

I don't know what it is, but it seems that it's a requirement here in the South to have these lying around so you can do a million and one things with that. I have compiled a list of useful things you can do with Mason jars. If you're not in the South, that's ok. You can do it anyway. :)

1. Flower vase/centerpiece- Who needs real vases when you have jars around. To make it even prettier, you can tie a ribbon around it.

2.  Lotion holder/soap dispenser- Much prettier than those ugly plastic containers. I got this from  Country Living

3.  Organization & Storage-OH MY GOODNESS! I didn't know that there were so many things you could organize and store with Mason Jars. Pencils, craft supplies, ribbons, etc. Here is the idea that I found on Weeping Cherries

4.  Drinking- I don't mean liquor either! These jars make the most absolute cutest glasses to drink out of. It screams Southern summer when you drink lemonade out of a Mason Jar. And add one of these cute little straws, and you might as well live in the South.

5.  Outside//Inside Lights-  TOO TOO Cute! Not sure I could pull this off, or DH for that matter, because we might get electrocuted. But, still a cute idea! This comes from  Inspire Please

And of course, the hanging lanterns that make any dinner outside classy. (From Tumblr)

6.  Meals- This was too cool. Perfect for taking on a picnic. Very convenient. :) (Taken from The Decorate Cookie )

7.  Planters-( Taken from blogs.babble.com ) You could also spray paint to add a nice touch. Nice to do with your children.

8. Glow Stick Lanterns- COOL! A definitely must do. Even if you don't have kids, it's just cool. You take your Glow Sticks and break them apart and put the liquid in the jar. Then you put the top on and shake it.

9. Sewing Kits-  Put a pin cushion at the top, and put your sewing needles and thread in the bottom and VIOLA! a small, organized sewing kit!

10.  Decoration- You can just use these with nothing in them and set them around the house.

So, that's it. If you have a Mason/Ball/Kerr jar just sitting around. Do something with it!

  1. I made these soap dispensers also. Do not use the old zinc lids though as they decompose/disintegrate from the liquid soap. Use the new lids that don't have writing on them.
